3 Signs You Should Have an Eye Exam

If you have healthy, normal eyes, then you should be having regular eye exams every few years. However, there are certain signs that indicate you need to have an eye exam sooner rather than later. We’d like to tell you what some of these signs are so that you can make sure you are receiving proper care for your vision.

If you find yourself getting persistent headaches, and you haven’t had an eye exam in a while, it may be because of changes in your vision. Because the changes can be gradual, you may have not noticed that your vision has gotten blurry. However, as your eyes strain to view things clearly, this can cause you to have headaches on a daily basis. That means it may be time to get glasses or a new prescription.

Sudden Vision Changes

As we’ve mentioned, most changes to your vision are gradual. However, if you do notice any sudden changes in your vision such as blind spots or seeing lots of “floaters” in your field of vision, you should see an optometrist right away. Such sudden changes could indicate major issues such as a retinal detachment. This sort of condition needs to be treated as soon as possible to avoid permanent vision loss.

Eye Injury

Finally, if you have injured your eye in any way, even if it does not appear to be a major injury, you should schedule an eye exam. An optometrist will be able to ensure that no serious damage was caused; if there was major damage, they may be able to help correct the issue and prevent future problems.
