3 Ways to Protect Your Vision

Your eyes are built up of muscles. Like any other muscle on the body, without proper usage or protection, they can come become damaged. Here are 3 ways to ensure your eyes stay in optimum condition.

  1. Avoid looking at screens for extended periods of time. Electronic screens cause strain on your eye, causing permanent damage to your vision. Make sure you don’t spend more than 20 minutes looking at a screen without giving your eyes a break. Focus your eyes on something a few yards away for at least 15 seconds before using your screen again. This will help reduce headaches and neck tension. Also, don’t ever look at a bright screen in a dark room. It’s hard for your eyes to go adjust to the contrast of light and dark.
  2. Go in for regular eye exams. If you wear contacts or glasses, make sure you visit your eye doctor yearly. It’s unhealthy for your eyes to be using an out-of-date prescription. Getting regular exams done will help your eyes stay healthy and seeing better than ever. Even if you don’t use glasses or contacts, a regular exam can help detect and prevent any possible issues.
  3. Wear sunglasses when outside. It doesn’t matter if you are only outside for a few minutes; use sunglasses. Sunlight causes damage to your eyes and can make your vision worse. Using glasses that block UV rays can protect your vision from the sun’s damaging rays.

If you have more questions about the health of your eyes, talk to your doctor during your next appointment.
